About ENGAGE-SDG
ENGAGE-SDG (European Union and Norms in Global Governance: Advancing Gender Equality and Sustainable Development Goals, Project No: 101239971) is a Jean Monnet Module hosted by Marmara University that critically examines the European Union’s role as a normative actor in global governance.
The module explores how the EU operates not only as a political and economic power, but also as a norm entrepreneur, norm setter, and norm shaper, influencing international agendas on gender equality, sustainability, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At a time when the world faces multiple and overlapping crises, including climate change, democratic backsliding, growing inequalities, and weakening multilateralism, ENGAGE-SDG investigates how EU norms travel beyond Europe and contribute to global policy transformation.
Over a three-year period, the project delivers specialized undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and outreach activities designed to bridge theory, policy, and practice. Through interdisciplinary perspectives from international relations, political economy, gender studies, and global governance, the module equips students and stakeholders with analytical and practical tools to understand and shape contemporary global challenges.
